To have and to hold! Meet the Longest-Married Couple

I am talking about marriage again,.....Everyday when I meet people I always want to know what makes their marriage "tick" and many other times, to convince myself that there are really no super woman or man in marriage,marriage works when we make up our minds to Work it.

Also, I like to face the reality that the wives can and will sometimes nag when they are stressed out, and the husbands can and will sometimes want to Lord over their wives. Do we also remember when the season is just dry!!!! as in dry...maybe no salary increment, mortgages and bills, school fees etc and there's just a little left to afford a weekend getaway talkless of a vacation. Most importantly I want to read and hear of the satisfaction that couples have gotten from their marriage inspite of the currents from wadding through the stormy waters.
Enough of my blabbing...

So,here's the longest married couple,Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher, lovebirds from North Carolina who got married in 1924. Below are excerpts of their interview/responses on twitter.

If I ask you, how what was your first impression of your husband? or wife or fiance or fiancee?
Here's what Zelmyra's response is?
Zelmyra says, she remembers what Herbert looks like when they first got married, in her words,“He was not mean; he was not a fighter,” “He was quiet and kind. He was not much to look at but he was sweet.”

Interestingly, he was not much to look at...but he was sweet...lol! Let me explain she meant "he was just there,very there...lol!" because if she saw him as an handsome man,i'm sure she would have said it, but see, Zelmyra says "he was sweet". Hunnnn....Do looks count?... maybe, sometimes

The Fishers, who are African-American, were poor when they got married, but they worked hard to create a good life for their family, despite the difficulties caused by segregation and racial discrimination. They had five children, and raised enough money to put them all through college. At last count, they have ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Hunnn....Marriage and Money,how important???? My take on this;Money is important and vital don't be deceived. The Fishers, worked hard..they raised enough money inorder to give their children ample opportunities. What do I say, if you must marry, then be ready to provide simple!

A man who is unable to provide for his household is worse than an infidel, and a wise woman buys and owns fields...remember the Proverbs 31 woman. Howbeit small, a woman should have a source of income.

In their response on twitter, they said
"There’s no secret to our marriage, we just did what was needed for each other & our family. "
Zelmyra says ,"A hard worker & good provider. The 1920s were hard, but Herbert wanted & provided the best for us. I married a good man!"

Winning together-An unbeatable team“Everyone who plants a seed & harvests the crop celebrates together” We are individuals, but accomplish more together. In marriage, it becomes beautiful, when you both realize that accomplishment becomes meaningful when its achieved together, marriage is not about outwitting each other or competition.

Do they fight?
I presume YES, their reply...NEVER physically! Agree that it’s okay to disagree & fight for what really matters. Learn to bend - not break! I believe that any man that raises his hand to hit a woman is a coward and I hope there are no sistahs out there that believes a woman has to be beaten or hit to teach some sense(I have heard this nonsense from some quarters..please don't belive this crap!)

What's their advise on a bad relationship day? "Marriage is not a contest, – never keep a score" I say, Talk about it and let it end there...no future referrals to past faults or scores...hunnn(is it really that easy?)

When asked to share the best marriage advice they've received: : Respect, support & communicate with each other.Be faithful, honest & true. Love each other with ALL of your heart."
